Introductory Level C
Length: 2 14-week semesters
Target age: 9th – 12th grade (advanced 8th graders with teacher approval)
Ability to type and access to Google Docs or Word Online strongly recommended.
Model-based writing instruction covering through Unit 9 of Excellence in Writing’s unique method of structure and style techniques, with focus being placed on writing notes from live lectures, study skills, advanced summarizing and style techniques, formal essay models, and response to literature. Beginning skills necessary for writing timed, in-class essays will be taught, along with opportunity for practice. Literature study using short stories and a novel-length work will provide opportunities for journaling exercises, annotation, and Socratic discussion, preparing students for college-level analysis. A public-speaking component will also be integrated throughout the course. This course includes individualized responses to student’s writing.
